Dreamcatcher wip2

Dreamcatcher wip2, originally uploaded by seian.

Here I am a little further along. The colors are a little too red especially in the middle, but I'm going to knock that back a bit with some greens and other moderating colors. This is moving pretty quickly as it's only 4"x7".

Dreamcatchers wip1

Dreamcatchers wip1, originally uploaded by seian.

This is the quick line work for a small piece I need to get done for a short story. I like to do the environment and the figures in a different color of pencil for my initial drawings to keep the shapes from being confused. And to those wondering where the heck this piece is, don't worry, I'm still working on it - I just need to put it aside for this little project first.

Making a Lord of the Rings Monopoly Game - Step 11

Well, the board's done! If you'd like to see some pictures and brief descriptions of what I did, just follow these links here. All I've got left to do is make the box, which I've started in step 14.

Making a Lord of the Rings Monopoly Game - Step 8

All right, big update today! I've gotten the cards done and I'm halfway through the coins. Here's just the last picture, and there's a bunch more along with descriptions of what I was doing on the links below.

In this picture the coins are cooked up and now washed with soap and water to get the excess glitter powder off. I go on to dry each one by hand with paper napkins to get even more glitter off. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Making a Lord of the Rings Monopoly Game - Step 1

Since I thought some of you might like this - I'd like to say, I'm making another one! This time for a friend. And it's got to be done in time for christmas. So over the next week or so I'm going to be uploading pictures of the process. I'll update this as I get more pictures and link them together.

To see the original board, click here for picture one, two and three.

It's a big project, with a heck of a lot of handwork. If I were allowed to make this for people, I'd have to charge $350. I've inquired about the licensing situation on it - no word yet. I'm not holding my breath at this time, as Hasbro already has the movie version rights. Oh well - at least I can give them away!

Step one is hauling out all my old files of the board art, and getting out my yellow calligraphy paper to print on. All the art is in Adobe Illustrator now. I made them between Illustrator and Photoshop. What you may not expect is that even the images I made in Illustrator, I converted to pixels instead of vectors. The reason being I found the printed vectors were just too crisp and clean. The "dirty" edges of a JPEG gives the printing a more settled and fitting texture.

I'll be using a laser printer for this. Very important as its output is essentially waterproof and will hold up to my gluing, painting and sealing.

Rosethorns WIP 5

Rosethorns WIP 5, originally uploaded by seian.

The hills are getting their polish now. I should be done with the background soon and then I attack the foreground.

Very important to do the background first, as you can see with earlier shots, the colors change considerably as the background does. What looked like pale colors on the knight, now seem much darker.
